Human Resources Undergraduate at Saint Cloud State University

The management major introduces the student to the dynamics and challenges of getting things done through and with other people in manufacturing and/or services, whether public or private, in small, medium, and large size organizations. Students learn about the concepts of management and the skills required in managerial functions to coordinate the activities of a business toward its mission and objectives. Areas of emphasis include: general management, human resource management and operations management. Official concentrations are designated for operations management and human resource management.

A 2.65 GPA is required for all students seeking a major or minor in the College of Business.
Bachelor of Science

Major (24)
The management major consists of the business core of 44 credits plus the management core of 12 credits (MGMT 352, 365, 467, and 470) plus 12 credits from the list of elective courses below. At least 9 of the 12 electives must be from the management department. If a Speech course is taken for elective credit, it may not be used to fulfill the College of Business communication requirement.

Human Resource Concentration

The concentration is available to students who are pursuing the management major. To earn the concentration, the 12 credits of elective coursework for the management major will be completed by taking the following courses: Required (12) MGMT 450, 451, 452, 453. Students are required to complete the management major core and the business core. It is recommended that students in the human resource concentration take an internship in this area during their senior year.

Operations Management Concentration

The concentration is available to students who are pursuing the management major. To earn the concentration, the credits of elective coursework for the management major will be completed by taking the following courses: Required (12) MGMT 483, 484, 485, 486. Students are required to complete the management major, including the business core. It is recommended that students in the operations management concentration take an internship in this area during their senior year.

Management Minor for Non-Business and Bachelor of Elective Studies Majors (24)
ACCT 201 or 291; MGMT 301; BLAW 235; MKTG 320 and four (4) 300-400 level courses selected from the approved MGMT electives. At least 3 of the courses must be from the MGMT department and all 4 electives must be from the College of Business.

Non-business majors who choose to minor in business may take no more than 30 credits of their total university coursework in the College of Business.
Selected management courses are an integral part of the international business program described in this catalog.
Only students admitted to a business major or minor program and who have completed 60 semester credits (junior standing) may enroll in 300- and 400-level courses. Management department permission required for all other students.
Business students should consult their adviser before enrolling for 260 and 261 due to the 50% rule.

Management Minor Program for Business Majors (15)
MGMT 365 and four (4) 300-400 level courses selected from the approved MGMT electives. Electives can be so chosen that students can obtain a management minor with an emphasis in general management, human resource management, operations management, or small business management. The department will work with students to tailor the program to their specific needs.

Human Resource Management Admission Requirements at Keystone College

You may complete the application online, print the application(.pdf), or use the Common Application. A non-refundable $30 application fee should accompany your application whether you apply online or through the mail.


Ensure that your SAT or ACT scores are either included with your official transcript or request that they be sent directly to the Office of Admissions. Keystone College’s school code is SAT-2351 and ACT-3602.
Please have your teacher complete a teacher evaluation form. Students applying with the Common Application should use the Common Application Teacher Evaluation Form. All other students should use the Keystone College Teacher Evaluation Form.
Students using the Common Applications must also submit the Keystone College supplement. You can either print a .pdf of the supplement here or use the online supplement found on the Common Application website.
Write a personal essay, minimum of 250 words, discussing the following: “The Admissions Committee at Keystone College reviews more than 1000 applicants each year. What makes you stand out from the other applicants?”

Application Timeline for High School Senior Year

September to December

Attend a Keystone College Open House or our Visitation Day.

Plan to take your SAT or ACT and send results to Keystone College. Keystone’s school code is 2351 for the SAT & 3602 for the ACT.

Apply for admission to Keystone. You can do this on-line or print the application. We also accept the Common Application. We make decisions and notify upcoming students on a rolling basis as soon as applications are complete.

We strongly encourage you to schedule an interview with your admissions counselor. Although it is not required, except for applicants for the art department….we would like to get to know you.

January - February

File income taxes and encourage parents to do the same as soon as possible after January 1; keep copies.

Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) and scholarship applications; keep copies.

March-April

Once accepted at Keystone College a commitment should be made no later than May 1. An enrollment deposit of $200 for resident students ($100 for commuter students) secures your commitment and is non-refundable after May 1.

May

Look for a summer job.

Prepare for your final high school examinations.

Complete Residence Life and New Student Orientation paperwork.

June-August

Enjoy your high school graduation day!

Make an appointment for a medical/physical examination. Are your immunizations up to date?

Attend one of Keystone College’s Mapping Days. Each session provides an opportunity to come to campus and register for your fall schedule in advance.

Are you living on campus? Complete the housing forms.

Make your last-minute preparations for college, especially if you are living on campus.
