Merit Scholarships

There are a variety of merit scholarships awarded from the Admissions Office. Each student who applies to Keystone College and is accepted may be eligible for one of these merit scholarships. A student can only receive one and the scholarship is not need-based. The Admissions Office used several pieces of information to determine what scholarship and the dollar value is awarded. These factors include, but are not limited to, SAT/ACT scores, high school academic record, and information provided in the application file. The scholarships available are:
Academic Excellence Scholarship
Presidential Scholarship
Trustee Scholarship

Program Scholarships

Keystone College offers a variety of scholarships that are both need-based and program specific. That is to say that the scholarships are awarded to students in a particular major and have demonstrated need available. The scholarships are:
Professional Accounting Scholarship
Drinko Criminal Justice Scholarship

Shoney’s Culinary Arts Scholarship
Sports and Recreation Management Scholarship
.

Donor-Supported Scholarships

Endowed and annual scholarships are funds that benefactors provide to Keystone College to award to students in accordance with the criteria established for each scholarship. The Financial Assistance & Planning Office awards most of these scholarships during the preparation of the financial assistance package; however some do require a separate application process. All students who receive one of these awards are asked to respond to the benefactors through the Development Office and receive instructions on doing so.

Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR)

OVR provides educational assistance to medically qualified students. When determining the amount of assistance, OVR requests information from the Financial Assistance & Planning Office pertaining to the student’s eligibility for state and federal grant assistance. Human Resource Development Master at Midwestern State University

Friday, February 20th, 2009

The Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees with majors in English, history, humanities, international studies, political science, psychology, sociology, and Spanish. The college also offers minors in these fields as well as French and philosophy. In addition to the traditional Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, the programs of the college include the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree, with an emphasis in professional development and in an occupational specialty.

In a larger sense the college provides all students with a broadly based liberal arts curriculum designed to empower the individual with the fundamental language and analytical skills necessary for a lifetime of learning and growth. Through general education courses in the modern languages, literature, history, philosophy, and the social and behavioral sciences, the college thus prepares all students, regardless of major, for future success in a rapidly changing world of globalization and specialization. At the same time the college promotes within its curriculum and instruction a general awareness of and appreciation for the cultural heritage and aesthetic values of our civilization.

The college affords students the opportunity to pursue advanced, specialized studies in the humanities and social sciences. It also offers preparation for professional careers in teaching and pre-professional training in the law. More than $120,000 of undergraduate merit scholarships are awarded annually within the college, owing to the generosity of the Perkins-Prothro Foundation and other benefactors and supporters of the liberal arts.

The college also awards the Master of Arts degree in English, history, political science, and psychology. Graduate assistant and teaching assistant positions are available in these departments, with stipends and scholarship awards that are competitive and comparable to those funded at peer institutions offering graduate degrees in these fields.

The strength of the Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences lies within its community of teaching scholars. College faculty have received numerous teaching awards and other professional honors in their distinguished careers. Of fifty full time faculty, thirty-four hold doctoral degrees from twenty-nine different major universities across the United States. In all, they have distinguished themselves through a wide range of scholarly achievements, with some 68 books and over 600 published articles, essays, poems, and short stories to their collective credit
