Admission Requirements

Midwestern State University reserves the right to change admission criteria in keeping with actions of the Texas State Legislature or the University Board of Regents. It is to the prospective student’s advantage to contact MSU Admissions. Students seeking admission and Texas residency classification under HB 1403 or SB 1528 should contact MSU Admissions. An affidavit is required.


Mode of Admission:


Undergraduate:

· Beginning Freshmen (students who have only a high school or GED education – no college work)

· Transfer Students (students who have attended another college or university)

· Returning Students (students who have attended MSU previously)

· Summer Guest (students who want to attend as a summer guest/transient student)

· International Students (students who are citizens of a country other than the United States)

· Special Programs (students interested in high school concurrent or non-degree external status)

Graduate/Post-Baccalaureate:
Graduate Students (students who are seeking a master’s degree at MSU)
Post-Baccalaureate Students (students who have at least a bachelor’s degree, but are not pursuing a master’s degree – only taking courses for personal or professional reasons)
Teacher Certification Students (students who already have at least a bachelor’s degree who are wanting to get certified to teach)
International Students (students who are citizens of a country other than the United States)

Midwestern State University has a non-refundable non-transferable application fee of $25.00 for new undergraduate students, $35.00 application fee for graduate students (this includes post-baccalaureate and teacher certification) and a $10.00 matriculation fee for returning students. MSU students, who fail to enroll in a fall or spring term, must reactivate their admission to the university. Applications will not be processed until the application fee has been received.

MSU Admissions will accept late applications online 7 days after the printed deadline. All late applications will be assessed a $25 late registration fee at the time of registration. Applications for admission are only applicable for the term submitted on the application (change of semester requests are not accepted). Applications will not be accepted after the printed deadline without individual approval. All application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

NOTE: All transcripts and test scores must come directly from the issuing institution to MSU to be considered official. Student mailed or hand carried copies are considered unofficial.


Beginning Freshmen –

UNCONDITIONAL ADMISSION

For unconditional admission students must graduate from a high school accredited by a regional accrediting agency or from a high school accredited by the Texas Education Agency and must meet the following high school units, class rank, and SAT/ACT score requirements:

Students whose high school transcript does not reflect ranking must submit scores of 1110/24 to be considered for unconditional admission.

Students taking classes for concurrent/dual credit, must also have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on collegiate transfer work.

All beginning freshmen, under 21 at the time of registration, and transfer students, under 21 years of age, who have fewer than 18 earned semester hours must take the SAT or ACT. Students 21 years of age or older will not be required to take the ACT if they graduated in the top half of their class and meet all unit requirements.

SPECIAL ADMISSION

Students who graduate from an unaccredited high school or home study program will be considered for admission on an individual basis. Entrance exam scores must be submitted for evaluation to determine admission status.

ADVISED ADMISSIONS

To be eligible for advised admission, a student must have no more than one high school unit deficiency and an ACT composite score of 18 or higher or a SAT combined score of 870 or higher. If the student is eligible for advised admission, the Admissions Office will base its admission decision on an evaluation of the student’s high school GPA, units, and SAT/ACT scores.

The advised admission status is a program designed to assist students whose entrance exam scores and/or class rank and grade point average suggest that with a monitored program, they will be successful in a college curriculum.

The conditions for students admitted under advised admission:

Students will enroll in no more than fourteen (14) semester hours of credit in a long semester and no more than three (3) hours in each summer session. In the first semester of enrollment the student is required to enroll in designated courses of MWSU 1233, College Connections, as part of their class schedule. The available sections are listed in the schedule of classes.

Students will remain in the advised admission program until they have completed twenty-four (24) semester hours at Midwestern State University and are in good academic standing according to the Table of Academic Standards listed in the university catalog.

The Academic Support Center (ASC) will monitor students. Once advised by their faculty advisor, students must take their approved schedule of classes to the ASC for removal of a registration hold.

GED Students – Students who pass the GED examination in lieu of the high school diploma must meet the beginning freshman requirements. All GED students will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and may be given restrictions with which they must comply.
AUTOMATIC ADMISSION – for accredited Texas public high school graduates only!

Students will be admitted if they graduate in the top ten percent of their class from an accredited Texas public high school if they meet the following conditions:

1. graduated from high school within the two years prior to the academic year for which admission is sought; and

2. submitted a complete application before the deadline.

Students in this category may be required to enroll in certain courses in the summer after graduation or during the first semester of enrollment. ACT / SAT scores must be submitted.

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a program which was developed by the 78th Texas State Legislature under which all undergraduate students, who are not exempt, are required to take one of the following assessment tests to demonstrate their level of college readiness in math and English: THEA (formerly TASP), Accuplacer, Asset, or Compass. Transfer Admissions

If you are currently attending another college or university and would like to apply for transfer admission to MSU, you must:

If you have earned fewer than 18 hours of college credit, you must have your high school submit an official copy of your transcript. You must also meet the requirements for freshmen admission.

Summer Guest

If you are currently attending another institution and would like to take summer classes at MSU, you must:
complete a Summer Guest Appication for admission
submit an official transcript from your current intstitution reflecting your grade point average is a minimum 2.0 and you are in good standing and a verification of enrollment reflecting your spring 2008 term, if not reflected on your transcript.

Returning Students

If you attended MSU previously but stayed out of school for a long semester (fall or spring) or more, you must:
reactivate your application file by sumbiting a new Application for Admission. Undergraduate students who are applying for graduate or postbaccalaureate admission, must complete an application for graduate or postbaccalaureate admission.

Each semester, nearly 6,000 students take advantage of the academic excellence at Midwestern State University. Most classes have fewer than 30 students enrolled, so professors can give you personal attention. We are proud of our 209 full-time faculty members who pursue research in their fields and become actively involved in the community.

Midwestern State University is located in Wichita Falls, Texas, midway between the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. With an approximate population of 107,000, Wichita Falls offers many activities and is home to several major industries and Sheppard Air Force Base.

Midwestern State University offers U.S. non-Texas residents a special tuition rate. Students who qualify will only pay $30 more per credit hour than a Texas resident.

The Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees with majors in English, history, humanities, international studies, political science, psychology, sociology, and Spanish. The college also offers minors in these fields as well as French and philosophy. In addition to the traditional Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, the programs of the college include the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree, with an emphasis in professional development and in an occupational specialty.

In a larger sense the college provides all students with a broadly based liberal arts curriculum designed to empower the individual with the fundamental language and analytical skills necessary for a lifetime of learning and growth. Through general education courses in the modern languages, literature, history, philosophy, and the social and behavioral sciences, the college thus prepares all students, regardless of major, for future success in a rapidly changing world of globalization and specialization. Master in Human Resources at Mid Sweden University

The one year Master in Human Resources at Mid Sweden University gives the students a qualified degree in Human Resources based in two subjects; Psychology and Sociology, and prepares them for a career in this field.

The objective of the Master Programme in Human Resources is to give students deeper knowledge within the areas of leadership, organization, and personnel management, from both a psychological and sociological perspective. The students study both main subjects but specialise in either psychology or sociology. In psychology, environmental and organizational psychology are emphasised, and in sociology the focus is on entrepreneurship, organizational theory, and risk management and risk communication. The programme qualifies the student for the Doctoral Program in either sociology or psychology.

The first semester consists of an introduction to advanced studies in the social sciences, psychology and sociology focused on human resources, and scientific methods. The second semester the students choose to study either sociology or psychology focused on human resources. The programme is completed with a written thesis (15 ECTS). All through the program independent and qualified tasks are given the students to provide them with learning opportunities and practise of analytical abilities. Human Resource Management Scholarship at Michigan State University

This application allows undergraduate business students to apply for almost $250,000 in scholarships with just one application. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year only and are divided evenly between Fall and Spring semesters. Recipients must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits per semester) as a Broad undergraduate student for the following academic year.

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative MSU grade-point average to apply. Applicants must also earn at least 56 credits and be admitted to the Broad College by the end of Spring semester. Applicants who are transfer students must earn at least 24 credits at MSU by the end of Spring semester.

The average recipient last year had a 3.76 cumulative GPA. The application includes employment experience, extracurricular activities, and an open-ended essay.
