Human Resource Management Certificate at Marietta College

The local Chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in cooperation with Marist College offer a 36-hour professional development program to help prepare human resource professionals for the national examination for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR) accreditation. (Examination requirements are 1-4 years of work experience) Upon course completion you will receive a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Marist College and a certificate from the Society of Human Resource Management and 3.6 CEU’s.

Human resource managers help organizations meet strategic goals by attracting and retaining employees. They oversee the people side of the business employee benefits, career development and training, hiring, labor relations. To prepare for a career in HR, its important to gain a thorough understanding of business and management issues, as well as to develop strong people skills.

According to SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management, HR can be a tough field to enter. Certification in HR is not required, either by the state or the industry, but it is an excellent way to break into the field and to advance your Human Resources career.

Professionals with two years exempt level human resource experience are eligible for SHRM certification by exam. This certification is provided by HRCI, the Human Resource Certification Institute, at two levels: PHR Professional in HR, and SPHR Senior Professional in HR. The PHR exam covers the technical/operational aspects of HR, while the SPHR exam focuses on strategy and policy.

Applicants applying for a graduate certificate must have earned an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university, with a minimum undergraduate quality point average (QPA) of 2.7. Students not meeting this requirement may be reconsidered for admission after completing one (1) prescribed course in the certificate program.
